If you’re like me, you love to keep track of your main character’s travels as their tale unfolds. In this, the trusty map has been a cornerstone for fantasy books for decades, perhaps longer.
For me, it was essential once I decided to build on my world rather than confine the story to a single location. The different lands, their cultures, where they are geographically and how they might influence one another through their respective histories. All of it was a necessary process for me to delve into the lives of my characters.
